Artist's Hands (Written in Gallery 250 at the MFA Boston)

At once,
I felt the hands of a thousand artists.
I shuddered.

The hands who did great deeds,
hoping their stories would be told-
the hands who paint their stories,
hoping for others to behold-
the hands who carved the frames
that those paintings may be held-
and those who hung them here,
that all our longings may be quelled.

At once,
they placed their hands upon my mind.
I recovered.
